Dear Families,

It was nice to see some of you on Saturday morning at our playdate! We’re already looking forward to the next one in April. Our Staff vs. Students Basketball Game was a blast—watching our staff take on the 5th graders was a highlight, and I’m still a little sore…ha! Congratulations to our 5th graders on the win.

Our recycling program also wrapped up this week—thank you to everyone who participated and helped make it a success. This effort was inspired and supported by our students, and we are proud of their leadership. Stay tuned for more student-led initiatives coming in the near future!

We’re looking forward to seeing many of you at conferences next week—please remember to sign up if you haven’t already. Finally, thank you to our volunteers for helping run the school store on Friday.

As a reminder, student drop-off begins at 8:20 a.m. We have noticed that some students are getting out of their cars in the car loop before that time, when school staff are not yet outside supervising. Some of our students have been running down the hill to get inside, and we want to ensure that if a child were to trip or get hurt, a staff member is there to assist them right away. Thank you for helping us keep arrival safe for everyone.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Annamaria Simonelli
Principal

🚒Emergency Drills

Conducting emergency drills (fire, crisis, lockdown, etc.) is one of the most important ways we enhance our preparedness for students and staff during an emergency. Drills allow us to practice what we need to do when an emergency arises in our school.

Earlier today, we conducted a fire drill. This was only a drill and was in accordance with the School Incident Management Protocols established by the district, in partnership with our local first responders. I am pleased to report that the drill was a success. It was efficient and timely.  If you have any feedback please reach out.  I want to thank our students and staff for their interest and participation in making our schools a safer place for learning.

This Week's Shoutouts!

Ms. Conrad, Ms. Flynn, and students!

Ms. Conrad, Ms. Flynn, and some of our second graders explored their learning about solids vs. liquids.  With a lot of teamwork, they made homemade butter.  Yum!

Milford Public Schools Ready to Learn Preschool Enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is now open!

The Ready to Learn  Early Start CT  grant-funded program is for preschoolers who are not yet eligible for Kindergarten.  Your child must turn three or four years old on or before September 1st, 2026.

The Ready to Learn (RTL) program operates 49 weeks a year for 10 hours per day.  In accordance with the Ready to Learn grant requirements, children must attend the preschool program daily for six hours per day or more.  At least sixty percent of the children enrolled must be at or below the State median income and have parents who are currently working or seeking employment.

There is a required annual tuition fee based on the 2024 1040 tax form that is submitted at the time of pre-enrollment and the State Office of Early Childhood Education sliding scale fee schedule.

A Ready to Learn preschooler will engage in an inquiry-based curriculum that utilizes intentional play and is aligned to the essential elements of Milford Public Schools’ Vision of the Learner. Our Ready to Learn program is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Interested families must complete the required pre-enrollment application.  Please note that completing the pre-enrollment process does not guarantee placement. Admission is based on available seats at each Ready to Learn site (Orange Avenue, Pumpkin Delight, and Live Oaks Elementary Schools) and in accordance with our grant requirements. Placement may not align with your child’s future K–12 school assignment.

Please click this link to complete the application in its entirety.

In the Spring of 2026, we will notify you via your personal email address as to whether or not your child has been accepted into the Ready to Learn preschool program for the 2026-2027 school year.

Please note that if you do not need childcare, during the summer months,  Milford Public Schools offers a part-time preschool through Pupil Personnel Services as well as the Foran High School Child Learning Center Lab.

If you have any additional questions or are in need of additional support,  please contact our Office of Early Childhood at tmaguire@milforded.org or (203) 783-3627.
