Dear Families,
We have had another great week at Meadowside! I’ve continued visiting classrooms to observe students and teachers as I get to know the school community. I have been so impressed with
the high level of engagement and learning happening across all grades. Our kindergarteners are already adding numbers, and our fifth graders are diving into their study of volcanoes and exploring the impact they have on the environment. It’s been wonderful to witness such rigorous and exciting instruction firsthand. I attended an Administrative Meeting this week to learn about Milford Public Schools’ 2025
goals. The district is focusing on three key areas. The first is Belonging—ensuring that all students feel safe, included, and supported while being exposed to rigorous, grade-level materials. The second is Formative Assessment, which looks at how students receive feedback from both peers and teachers to help their skills grow and deepen over time. The final goal is Student Agency, which emphasizes who is doing the thinking and the work in the
classroom. Are students actively engaged and taking ownership of their learning, or is the teacher doing most of the work? Next week, I will share some concrete examples of how I am seeing this important work come to life at Meadowside. I also attended the P.T.A. meeting this week. I encourage you to check out their Facebook page to stay up-to-date on the wonderful events planned for the upcoming winter season.
Please send your children to school with warm clothing for outdoor recess. I believe that students benefit from getting outside for fresh air each day, and I want them to be comfortable while they play and move around. If you need support in this area, please let me know, and I will provide the resources you need.
