Heart Highlights

April 17, 2026

A HEARTfelt thank you goes out to everyone who helped make our STEM Night this past Wednesday such a wonderful success! We are especially grateful to Mrs. Kathleen Farmer from our PTA and our STEM Teacher, Mrs. Jolene Guarino, for planning and facilitating an engaging evening filled with hands-on learning opportunities. We also extend our thanks to the staff members who helped run stations, our amazing student volunteers, and our community partners—Mathnasium and the Milford Public Library—for generously volunteering their time and helping to create such a meaningful experience for our families.

Events like STEM Night highlight the importance of engaging in science, technology, engineering, and math activities as a family. When children explore, build, problem-solve, and create alongside the adults in their lives, they strengthen critical thinking skills, build confidence, and develop curiosity about the world around them. These shared experiences not only nourish the brain by encouraging creativity and perseverance, but also foster a love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom. Thank you to all of the families who joined us and helped make the evening a celebration of learning, discovery, and connection.

Check out some photos from STEM night below as well as from our Kindergarten fun this week during the Week of the Young Child!

Important Reminder for Parents Regarding Online Safety

As technology continues to be a regular part of many of our children’s lives, we want to remind families of the importance of closely monitoring their child’s online activity at home. While digital platforms can provide wonderful opportunities for learning and connection, they can also expose children to serious risks when safety precautions are not in place.

One of the most important safety rules is ensuring that children do not communicate with strangers online. Whether through games, social media, chat features, or apps, interacting with unknown individuals can place children in dangerous situations. It is essential that families regularly review the platforms their children are using, supervise online interactions, and talk openly about the importance of never sharing personal information or engaging in conversations with people they do not know in real life.

By staying involved and setting clear expectations for safe technology use, families can help children develop responsible online habits and protect them from potential harm. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe both in and out of school.

Earth Day Tree Update

Families who ordered a tree for Earth Day can expect them to begin arriving as early as Monday of next week. Trees will be distributed to students in their classrooms once they are delivered. Thank you for helping us celebrate and support our environment!

Meadowside Career Day

Hello Meadowside Families,

We are in the beginning stages of planning our annual career day and would love you to join us! This year our event will take place the morning of May 28th. Similarly to years past, we will have presentations planned for each grade level. This year we are using a scheduling program to help streamline planning and allow for families to be able to choose their time slot with the hopes that it will allow more participation.

Presentations can be anything from reading a story about your career, creating a short slideshow or video, bringing in tools or materials, showing off uniforms or other equipment that helps you do your job etc. You can get creative! Presentations are 15 each and we ask that presenters come 10-15mins early to ensure there is enough time to settle in.

Students will be encouraged to come to school dressed like their dream career and will have the opportunity to participate in different career themed activities throughout the day. This is always such a fun day for staff and students. We are so excited to welcome you all into our school and to learn more about your careers!

This is the link to sign up. Please note that the available time slots are sorted by grade level and time. If you have students in multiple grade levels please feel free to sign up for both. If there are any questions please reach out to Miss Smith (brittanysmith@milforded.org.) She will be reaching out to our participants with additional information as the event approaches.

Thank you for making this event so special for our students. We appreciate our community and look forward to seeing you all!

Community Food Drive

In support of our community partners, Dr. Cutaia agreed to participate in a food drive the last two weeks of April (April 20-30). First United Church of Christ and Food 2 Kids are partnering together and asking the City to collect food to help stock pantries and food banks.

There will be a culminating community event on May 1 on the Milford Green. I've attached the flyer for your reference and to share with your school communities.

Fire Drill

Conducting emergency drills (fire, crisis, lockdown, etc.) is one of the most important ways we help keep students and staff safe during an emergency. Drills allow us to practice what we need to do when an emergency arises in our school.

Next week Meadowside School will be conducting a fire drill. This will only be a drill and will be conducted in accordance with the School Incident Management Protocols established by the district, and in collaboration with our local first responders. Please discuss the importance of our emergency drills with your children.  We thank you for your cooperation and partnership with keeping our schools safe!
