My Fellow Lions,
Great week here at OAS! One of the most exciting parts of our literacy block this year has been watching our youngest learners grow as readers through UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) instruction. UFLI lessons are explicit, systematic, and engaging, providing students with the foundational phonics skills that support fluent, confident reading.
Teachers use clear routines and visual cues to model and reinforce phonetic rules, while students practice blending, decoding, and spelling through interactive activities. Throughout each lesson, teachers collect in-the-moment data to guide reteaching and ensure every student has the support needed to access grade-level reading tasks.
Most importantly, students are developing a sense of belonging and agency—working together, celebrating small wins, and proudly applying their growing skills during reading and writing time.
